Final score: #2 Ohio State 28 #8 Penn State 17

Brief recap: From the opening kickoff through the first 35 minutes of the game, Ohio State dominated Penn State the same way it dominated its previous 10 opponents. The Buckeye defense stymied the Nittany Lions through the first two quarters, building a 14-0 lead at the half and eventually taking a 21-0 lead into the third quarter. Justin Fields and J.K. Dobbins looked unstoppable and Chase Young was unblockable. But thanks to Journey Brown, Penn State was able to claw its way back into the game, making the score 21-7 on a nifty touchdown run. Ohio State then fumbled on consecutive possessions and the Nittany Lions were able to get the game with four points at 21-17 heading into the fourth quarter. But a Fields pass to the end zone to Chris Olave ended up being the icing on the cake, as well as a few more big defensive stands.

Key moment: There were plenty of positive key moments for Ohio State throughout the game, but Sean Clifford’s injury really hurt Penn State at the end of the game. Having inexperience under center when the Nittany Lions needed to put scoring drives together

Key stat: Ohio State’s defense held Penn State’s rushing attack to just 99 yards, often getting to the quarterback. The Nittany Lions needed a balanced effort to knock off the Buckeyes, and just wasn’t able to get it.

Key player: In his first game back from suspension, Young finished the day with three sacks and four tackles for loss against one of the 10 best teams in the country. That’s a pretty good outing for a guy who hasn’t played since October.

What it means for Penn State: The Nittany Lions lost another disappointing contest to Ohio State, but they did put up one heck of a fight, especially without Clifford under center for most of the second half. This team is still one year ahead of schedule and had its chances to beat a team many consider to be the best in America. A win over Rutgers next weekend and James Franklin hits 10 wins again. That’s not too shabby.

What it means for Ohio State: Another signature win for Ohio State and the Buckeyes have clinched their spot in Indianapolis with the victory. Ohio State will have its focus completely on Michigan next week, but regardless of result, the Buckeyes have a shot to win their third straight B1G title.
