The best recruits don’t always pan out.

Neither do the best and top draft picks each year, regardless of the sport. That’s just the way of the sports world.

As for now, you can consider Georgia LB Brenton Cox as somebody who has not panned out. Granted, things can always change and comeback stories are a reality for a reason, but, the former 5-star recruit was reportedly dismissed from the Bulldogs.

Anthony Dasher of Rivals wrote that the reason for dismissal was unknown at the time, but Cox was arrested in April for marijuana possession, a misdemeanor charge. Cox has reportedly put his name into the transfer portal.

Cox was a 5-star recruit in the Class of 2018 and at one point was verbally committed to Ohio State. Prior to signing, the No. 2 strong-side defensive end in his class ended up decommitting and joining Georgia.

Last season, Cox recorded 20 tackles.
