Dwayne Haskins has been considered one of the top prospects available in the 2019 NFL Draft, but one of the teams thought to be interested in selecting the former Ohio State quarterback apparently has other plans.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Giants aren’t too interested in Haskins and are looking to select a defensive player with their No. 6 pick in the upcoming draft.

“About a week after the Combine, I circled back with some people like, “What are you thinking [about] Haskins? Do you guys like him? Do you think you are going for it with your No. 6 pick?'” Russini told Breaking Big Blue podcast. “It was, ‘No, actually. We are not doing a lot of work on him.’

“I spoke to a few people. I’ll paraphrase one: ‘He doesn’t fit with us.’ The idea that they are not going to go after a quarterback with the No. 6 pick solidifies they are not giving up on Eli (Manning).”

Haskins was expected to be one of the top prospects for the Giants to select. With an aging Manning, Haskins would be a great replacement under center in New York. But it doesn’t sound like that will be the case.

Haskins threw for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns in his only season as the starter at Ohio State, leading the NCAA in both categories. He was named the B1G Offensive Player of the Year and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. He’s considered one of the two best quarterbacks in the draft, along with former Oklahoma star Kyler Murray.
