Ohio State assistant coach Ryan Pedon is expected to be the next head coach at Illinois State. Matt Norlander of CBS Sports reported the news on Friday.

Pedon has been an assistant coach at Ohio State since the 2017-18 season. He was also at Butler from 2015-17 and Illinois from 2013-15. This will be Pedon’s first opportunity to run his own program.

Before jumping into the B1G, Pedon was an assistant at Miam (OH) and Toledo. He’s been involved in coaching for two decades, taking plenty of experience with him to Illinois State.

The Redbirds finished the 2021-22 season with a 13-19 record, which included a 5-13 mark in The Valley. It was announced in February that Dan Muller would not return for the 2022-23 season in February. Initially, Muller was expected to finish the season, but he announced he would be stepping down immediately.

Muller was the head coach of Illinois State from 2012-22. The Redbirds made two NIT appearances and posted a record of 167-150.

Per Norlander, Pedon will remain with Ohio State through the remainder of this season before taking over as head coach at Illinois State. The Buckeyes are 19-9 on the season and 12-7 in B1G play with one game remaining.
