As Ohio State gears up to face Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl, one of the top offensive assistants for the Buckeyes is reportedly a leading candidate to be the offensive coordinator at Texas.
According to Brett McMurphy with Stadium, Mike Yurcich is the leader to become the next OC for the Longhorns. Yurcich is currently the passing game coordinator and QB coach for the Buckeyes and was previously the OC at Oklahoma State from 2013-18.
According to McMurphy, Yurcich would stay with Ohio State through the CFP even if he does win the job. Though Ryan Day likely has played a role, the development of Justin Fields under Yurcich this season has been noteworthy.
McMurphy also indicated that Minnesota OC Kirk Ciarrocca is another potential candidate for the Texas opening. Ciarrocca has been P.J. Fleck’s OC since 2013, going back to their time at Western Michigan.
