Ohio State’s wide receiver room has taken a hit this week.
BuckeyeGrove.com is reporting that wide receiver and former four-star recruit Jaelen Gill has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. The Westerville, Ohio native was a member of the Buckeyes’ 2018 recruiting class and was ranked as the No. 30 overall prospect in his recruiting cycle.
Gill came to Ohio State listed as an all-purpose back, according to 247Sports. He was the No. 2 player at his position and the second-best recruit out of the state of Ohio, as well.
Last season, Gill totaled six catches for 51 yards and a touchdown. In 2018, he had just one reception for 11 yards.
According to BuckeyeGrove.com, Gill will apply for immediate eligibility at his next stop. He will have three years of eligibility remaining after using his first season in Columbus as a redshirt year.
Ohio State lost several talented receivers to the NFL Draft and graduation, but a plethora of talent also returns or is coming into the program with the 2020 recruiting class. Still, losing Gill is a tough blow for the Buckeyes and would be a serious addition for several teams.
