As the end of the college football season continues to near, the speculation that Urban Meyer will be back on a sideline is 2020 continues to pick up steam. With a few jobs already open or expected to have vacancies in the coming weeks, Meyer is thought to be one of the top candidates available.

Primarily, people have speculated whether or not Meyer would be interested in taking a job at USC or Florida State this offseason. But at least one source close to Meyer doesn’t believe that will happen.

According to 247Sports and CBS college football reporter Dennis Dodd, one source close to Meyer believes the successful head coach has put his coaching days behind him.

Meyer has been in a similar situation before. Following the 2010 season, Meyer left Florida somewhat unexpectedly to focus on his health. After spending one year as an analyst at ESPN, Meyer became the head coach at Ohio State in 2012.

Some are skeptical that Meyer is truly done being a head coach.

Meyer has said repeatedly since his retirement from Ohio State last December that he believes he is done coaching. He has not publicly said he is absolutely done, but hasn’t talked about having much interest in a return, either.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks when coaching searches really begin to pick up steam.
