Urban Meyer left Florida due to health concerns. A year later, he was the head coach at Ohio State.

He left the Buckeyes after last season, and of course, speculations arose about where he could end up next. Many thought it could be USC, but the Trojans affirmed their belief in Clay Helton as the two recently reached a deal to keep Helton in town.

So, what’s next for Meyer?

Try the Dallas Cowboys.

No, the Cowboys haven’t fired Jason Garrett. But, the belief is that Garrett will be out of Dallas sooner rather than later — at once the Cowboys 2019 season comes to a close.

According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, she said that Meyer and Jerry Jones’ son — Stephen Jones, who is the team’s Director of Player Personnel — spoke recently. She confirms there is ‘a very real interest’ in Meyer from the Cowboys.

Meyer isn’t exactly closed off to the idea, either. He said earlier this year that if the Cowboys call you, as a head coach, you pick up the phone and answer it. It’s the Dallas Cowboys. It’s America’s Team. It’s different.

When you add into the fact that the Cowboys have talented pieces on their roster — like former Buckeye running back Ezekiel Elliott — it makes the job even that much more enticing if you’re Meyer.

So far, nothing’s happened yet. But, there’s smoke. And where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
