The scandal surrounding the suspension of Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and the dismissal of former assistant coach Zach Smith has taken another dramatic turn with explosive claims coming from Lynn Bruce, Smith’s mother and the daughter of legendary Buckeyes coach Earle Bruce.

In an article posted to Facebook by Jeff Snook, recognized OSU insider and author of multiple books on the Buckeyes, Bruce makes the claim that Courtney Smith openly vowed to take down Meyer as elaborate revenge for Smith’s cheating.

“When (Courtney Smith) found out five years ago that Zach had cheated on her, she was so angry that she vowed to me she would get back at him someday. And she said she would take Urban down, too,” Bruce told Snook. “And this is exactly what she did. She wanted to do as much damage as possible. She has been planning this for some time.”

Snook is a journalism graduate from Ohio State. Critics will almost certainly question his decision to publish quotes from an obviously biased source, but publishing them (albeit to Facebook, not a conventional publication with an editor, publisher or legal team) indicates Snook deems the material newsworthy as a journalist.

Bruce adds that Courtney Smith is no longer on speaking terms with her own mother, Tina Carano, who has taken Zach Smith’s side in the dispute.

“I believe that Zach was removing himself from an argument and I do not believe he intentionally abused her,” Carano texted Snook. “I do not believe he actually intentionally swung or punched her … no.”

Carano also told Snook she heard Courtney Smith vow to take down Meyer.
