Ryan Day had Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a snap count as a precaution against Iowa. Smith-Njigba has been dealing with a hamstring injury for the majority of the season.

Day revealed that Smith-Njigba wanted to keep playing despite getting close to his snap limit. The team wanted to make sure that his number was somewhere around 20 for the game.

“He’s always been trying to get back out there,” said Day. “We wanted to make sure that number was kept around 20.”

As for now, Day says the plan is for Smith-Njigba to play against Penn State. Day chose not to divulge whether or not he’s planning on putting him on a pitch count in back-to-back games.

Smith-Njigba had 1 catch for 7 yards receiving before he sat out the rest of the game against the Hawkeyes. We’ll see if Day is planning on keeping Smith-Njigba limited during the Penn State game as well.

Ohio State-Penn State kicks off at noon ET on FOX.
