Ryan Day has a lot of praise for the Michigan State defense.

For the past two seasons, the Spartans have been recognized as having one of the stingiest defenses in the country, particularly against the run. On Saturday night, they’ll travel to Columbus to take on an Ohio State offense that has yet to be slowed down.

Day, during his radio show on 97.1 The Fan, had pretty big praise for Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State defense. Not only are the Spartans one of the best defenses this season, but Day believes of the decade.

“This definitely is the biggest challenge,” Day said. “It’s one of the toughest run defenses in the past decade.”

Michigan State’s run defense currently ranks second in the B1G and fourth in the nation. The Spartans are allowing just 55.8 yards per game on the ground this season and just 1.86 yards per carry.

Ohio State, on the other hand, has rushed for over 200 yards in each of its first five games and owns one of the 10 best rushing offenses nationally. Oh, and Justin Fields and the passing attack is pretty good, too.

Will Saturday be the toughest test for the Buckeyes? Yes. But Ohio State’s offense has looked pretty good throughout the season. The bigger challenge may be on Michigan State’s defense on Saturday night.
