Ryan Day comments on Kyle McCord, says QB was 'very well-respected' at OSU
Ryan Day is dealing with a first decision of its kind during his stint at Ohio State.
That decision involves quarterback Kyle McCord opting for the transfer portal at the end of the regular season. McCord started every game as the team went 11-1, but Day would not commit to McCord as the starter moving forward.
During his Wednesday press conference, Day said he would keep the conversations between the two private. However, he believes McCord was still well-respected with the Buckeyes and expects the QB to do well at his next stop.
“I’m going to keep the conversation private between us,” Day said about the final transfer discussion with McCord. “And I really don’t want to get into it because I don’t think it serves anybody any good. I think Kyle was very well-respected here, we wish him nothing but the best. He played some good football here, he spent 3 years here and made a lot of relationships here.
“I think he’s committed to another school now and he’ll do well there, he will. I just don’t think it’s worth getting into all right now but wish him nothing but the best of luck. There are a lot of guys in that room that care about him a lot.”
McCord is the first starting quarterback from Day’s head-coaching tenure to hit the transfer portal. Prior to McCord, Day helped develop Justin Fields and CJ Stroud into first-round draft picks.
