Ryan Day confirmed reports on Wednesday that starting center Seth McLaughlin suffered a season-ending injury. The center, who transferred to Ohio State from Alabama last offseason, reportedly suffered an Achilles injury in practice on Tuesday.

This is the 2nd starting lineman to go down with a season-ending injury for the Buckeyes. Starting left tackle Josh Simmons went down for the season against Oregon last month.

“We’re definitely crushed for Seth but we’re ready to move on and maintain a next-man-up mentality,” said Day. “We’ll move Carson (Hinzman) to center and move Austin (Siereveld) to left guard who both had a very spirited practice today. I’m super excited for those guys to get in the game and it’s a great opportunity for them.”

Hinzman had been playing at left guard, but will now slide over to center. Siereveld had been a key backup but will now be the primary left guard. This leaves the Buckeyes incredibly thin along the line, with Joshua Padilla, Toby Wilson, and Gabe VanSickle as other options to step into increased roles.

The Buckeyes have just 2 more regular season games to go. In Week 13, the team plays host to Indiana before hosting Michigan for The Game in Week 14. In the latest College Football Playoff rankings, the Buckeyes came in at No. 2.
