Ryan Day and Ohio State got off to a blistering start against Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Wednesday evening.

The Buckeyes carried a 34-8 lead going into the halftime break. The first half was completely dominated by Ohio State until Oregon scored with no time remaining on the first-half clock.

In speaking with ESPN’s sideline reporter, Day lamented Oregon’s final drive before discussing what the Buckeyes need to do in the third quarter.

“We’ve gotta do a good job on 3rd down, we gave up the explosive play and then we just didn’t hold up there at the end,” Day said. “And they get the ball to start the 2nd half. We’ve got to come out and do a great job on the first 4-5 minutes. We’ve got to get a stop, turnaround and come score here. But overall up until that point I felt like we were winning the line of scrimmage and winning on 3rd down.”

Oregon coach Dan Lanning also spoke about the first half with ESPN’s Holly Rowe just before the break. He focused on the momentum that the Ducks could build upon by scoring at the end of the 2nd quarter.

“We got a lot we need to work on but it’s great to go get a score there, send us into halftime with a little momentum,” Lanning said.

The winner of this game will advance to face Texas in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10.
