Ryan Day and Ohio State escaped Notre Dame Stadium with a win Saturday, squeaking past Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish with a last-second touchdown.

A big storyline from the game was Marvin Harrison Jr. who finished with a quiet night and 3 catches for 32 yards against the Irish. Harrison also left the action for a while with a nasty ankle injury but returned to finish the game.

Day admitted after the game that Ohio State was still trying to get the ball to the superstar receiver throughout the night, but Notre Dame made a dedicated effort to double Harrison. In the end, Day praised Harrison for even finishing the game after the injury.

“We were trying to get him the best we could, but when they decide to double him in those situations. We have to continue to try to find ways,” said Day in his press conference. “I thought he showed toughness (to come back)… and play the way he did. I’ve said this before: In a two-minute situation, if you’re gonna double him, somebody’s in a one-on-one… So they gotta win.”

A big theme from the game for Day was the toughness of his squad, and he particularly pointed to Harrison gutting out the game as a prime example of that toughness. He also labeled Harrison’s injury as a sprained ankle.

“Marvin doesn’t get the catch to win the game, but his presence made a huge impact on the game. He sprained the ankle, and if he doesn’t come back after that maybe he doesn’t draw the attention that opened up Emeka (Egbuka),” Day explained. “Again, you talk about toughness, that was toughness from 18.”

The good news for Ohio State is the team will be on a bye in Week 5. Hopefully, that rest aids Harrison as he works to get back in shape for Week 6 and 8 straight B1G games.
