Ryan Day doubles down on attacks of toughness narrative: 'That ends tonight'
Ryan Day has heard all the narratives surrounding Ohio State and a perceived lack of toughness for the program. He’s intent on squashing those after a gutsy win and last-minute drive to take out Notre Dame.
At his postgame press conference, Day was asked if Saturday was a “lunchpail performance” after Lou Holtz shared some pointed comments about the Buckeyes on Friday. The head coach admitted it was that type of performance and said it was brewing as the team heard various people take shots this week.
“It was brewing for a couple of days. I said it earlier, I’ll say it again. A lot of people took a lot of shots at this team over the last 48 hours. It really hit home to me,” said Day. “The way that our team played. Not only did we get after this team physically last year, but we did it again here at the end of the game.”
Day once again directly Lou Holtz in his comments after firing back at the former head coach for his appearance on the Pat McAfee show.
“I think it says a lot about this team. And I’m really upset and disrespected by what Lou Holtz said publicly about this team. And Ohio State, Buckeye Nation and we’re not gonna stand for it because it’s not even close to true,” Day reiterated. “I don’t know where that narrative comes from but that ends tonight. This team showed toughness, it showed grit and they didn’t give up and they found a way to get that last yard.”
