Ryan Day no longer has Jim Harbaugh standing in his way heading into 2024.

The former Michigan Wolverines head coach has moved on to the NFL to take the Los Angeles Chargers job — so after losing the last three straight to their bitter rivals — the Buckeyes have a great chance to knock them off in 2024.

If Day can’t lead the Buckeyes to victory over Michigan this season he could have bigger problems, but some Ohio State fans argue the Wolverines had an unfair advantage due to the sign stealing scandal that came out under Harbaugh’s tenure.

The scandal, which prompted Big Ten and NCAA investigations, resulted in a 3-game suspension of former head coach Jim Harbaugh and took the college football world by storm in the latter half of the 2023 season.

Ex-staffer Connor Stalions was named at the head of the illegal practice, which involved deciphering opposing teams’ signals. While that is perfectly legal during a game, or using game film, Stalions is alleged to oversaw an elaborate operation that involved traveling to future opponents’ games, taping signals from the stands or sidelines, and creating a blueprint of signals for matchups.

Netflix released a new documentary based on the controversy titled “Untold: Sign Stealer” which features Stalions’ account of the situation.

On Tuesday, Day was asked if he was planning to watch the documentary.

According to Eleven Warriors writer Chase Brown, the Ohio State coach responded with a firm “no” which apparently drew audible laughs during his press conference ahead of the Akron season opener.

It is the first time the former Marine Corps captain has spoken publicly. His side of the story, paired with some newly released evidence, is not a good look for Michigan from a national perspective according to early reviews.
