Ryan Day isn’t hiding his expectations for veteran offensive lineman Dawand Jones entering the 2022 season. He believes the big-bodied tackle can be one of the anchors for the Buckeyes up front.

Jones had an opportunity to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft following last season but opted to return to Columbus for one more season. Now, the 6-foot-8 tackle is expected to be one of the premier offensive linemen in the country.

Day believes Jones can see a major jump in his draft stock if he shows more consistency this fall.

“I don’t think there’s any question he has the ability and he has the talent to be one of the better tackles in the country,” Day said, per Eleven Warriors. “Now whether he is or not, there’s certain things that he’s gonna have to get accomplished here in the offseason, and then during next season, to get to that point. And consistency is gonna be one of them. But he’s done some good things and I think he knows what those things are that he wants to get done.”

Over the last two seasons, Jones has seen action in 17 games, playing a pivotal role along the offensive line. He’ll be one of the more experienced players for the Buckeyes along the front lines in 2022.

The Buckeyes are going through some changes up front, with the team parting ways with Greg Studrawa and bringing in Justin Frye to coach the offensive line.
