Ryan Day has named his starting quarterback for Ohio State’s Week 1 matchup against Indiana.

Day is going to Kyle McCord as his QB1, but also plans to get Devin Brown some reps, he announced in his press conference Tuesday afternoon.

“Kyle has done a great job in the last two weeks of showing consistency,” Day said.

McCord only came in as a reliever for CJ Stroud once games were decided last season, but was solid in his limited appearances. McCord threw for 190 yards on an efficient 16/20. Now, McCord will get the chance to showcase what all he can do.

Brown, a sophomore, did not have any appearances a season ago. He was considered a 4-star prospect by 247Sports composite coming into college. Brown missed some action during the offseason with a thumb injury.

Ultimately, Day said the decision to start McCord came down to how McCord performed during fall practices.

“I’m not sure how it’s gonna shake out,” Day said. “What we are doing is fair based off of what we’ve seen this preseason.”

The Buckeyes will lean on the pair of quarterbacks as they try to pick up an early season win over the Hoosiers.
