Ryan Day notes 'strange things' that have occurred in trips to West Lafayette ahead of Week 7
Ryan Day is not dodging the impact of playing Purdue on the road. Over the years, Ohio State has experienced some weird results — and back-breaking losses — in West Lafayette.
The head-to-head matchups at Purdue most recently included a 2018 upset at the hands of the Boilermakers. Dubbed the “Tyler Trent game,” the Boilermakers blew out a No. 2 Ohio State squad led by Urban Meyer.
During Monday’s broadcast of the Buckeye Roundtable on 97.1 the Fan, Day admitted there have been some “strange things” that happened in West Lafayette. However, he pointed to an Ohio State team that is hungry and focused for the trip.
“You have to bring that up, huh,” questioned Day when the oddities at Purdue were brought up. “They’re well-coached, Coach (Ryan) Walters does a very good job, they have a very good scheme. And like you said, there’s a lot of strange things that have happened there. Noon kickoff, we’re gonna have another good week of practice. We’re certainly not content around here, I can tell you that. We’re hungry, we know we need to get better, so we got to go back on the road and get a win at Purdue and go from there.”
During the conversation, Day also noted his group is beginning to show the poise that comes with playing big-time football and some close games. Hopefully, that pays off for another road trip.
“I think that comes with experience. This group of players has now seen a bunch of football,” Day explained. “They’ve seen a lot of situations. They know that it takes four quarters. Certainly always want to get a fast start… I thought we settled down and then found our rhythm.”
