Ryan Day and Ohio State rolled with a big win against Michigan State in Week 11. The Buckeyes had too much firepower on both sides of the ball, but a key storyline for Ohio State was the absence of some defensive starters.

Tommy Eichenberg, Josh Proctor and Lathan Ransom were all ruled out ahead of Saturday’s game, and Day was asked about the status of that group after the win. The good news is that Day listed Eichenberg and Proctor as week-to-week and expects both to be back soon.

As for Ransom, Day said it’s a more long-term issue, but he did not elaborate:

“Tommy will be week-to-week. It is not long-term, but it will be week-to-week,” said Day. “We feel like we’re going to get him back here soon. Lathan’s is more long-term. Same thing with Proct, we think we’ll get him back here real soon.”

While Ohio State wants to get that group back in the lineup, Day pointed out it was good to get some reps for other players in Week 11. Moving forward, the team will need everyone at the top of their game in case their number is called.

“But, it was great to see some guys step up. Guys you don’t know how those things are going to shake out, you’ve got to have guys play, and even at the end of the game, able to get some guys some reps,” Day explained. “Those are precious reps because you never know when guys are going to have to be put in those situations.”
