Ryan Day and Ohio State took a hard-fought one-point loss to Oregon Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Buckeyes lost more than just the game in Eugene.

Starting left tackle Josh Simmons was carted back to the locker room with an injury in the first half. He is a key 2025 NFL Draft prospect and one of the best linemen for the Buckeyes, and his absence was felt throughout the 2nd half.

As for Simmons’ long-term status, Day revealed after the game it looks unlikely Simmons will be back this season. It goes without saying but that would be a big loss for Ohio State’s offense and the protection on Will Howard’s blindside.

“The injury to Josh Simmons hurt,” said Day. “I’ll have to get the update on Simmons, but it doesn’t look great in terms of him being able to come back this season. That’s a big hit for us.”

Even with Simmons sidelined, Ohio State’s offense scored 31 points in a hostile environment, but the impact in the running game was most notable. The Buckeyes averaged just 4.3 yards per carry in the game, and a big chunk of the production came on a long run from TreVeyon Henderson.
