Ryan Day is feeling confident about what he’s seen from Ohio State’s cornerback room so far this spring.

Through 3 practices, Day told reporters on Tuesday that he couldn’t have imagined a “better start” for the group.

“I like their attitude. I like their competitiveness,” Day said. “That’s what we want.”

Ohio State’s cornerback room will be looking to replace longtime contributor Cameron Brown, who left for the NFL this offseason. In 2022, Brown recorded 14 tackles and deflected 5 passes in 8 games. He played 5 seasons for Ohio State.

However, the Buckeyes do return a key player in Denzel Burke. He’s expected to retain a starting job this offseason after 34 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 5 pass deflections last season.

What it means for Ohio State moving forward

Ohio State is hoping to see some growth from the cornerback position this offseason. In 2022, the Buckeyes ranked 10th in the Big Ten in passer efficiency rating allowed.

The leader to replace Brown in the lineup may be sophomore Jyaire Brown. On Tuesday morning, Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles announced that Brown earned the “Silver Bullet of the day” for his work in practice:

Last season, Brown recorded 8 tackles, 3 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble.

Ohio State’s annual spring game will be played on April 15.
