Ryan Day on multitude of changes facing CFB: We may not recognize it in five years

There is no doubt about it: college football is going through a period of significant change.

Some of those changes were brought on by NIL legislation as athletes around the country are now able to cash in on their personal brand. Beyond that, rumors began swirling about more conference realignment with Texas and Oklahoma looking to bolt to the SEC. While nothing official has been announced about those rumors, it sure feels like where there is smoke there is fire.

Along with potential realignment, there are ongoing discussions about an expanded College Football Playoff with up to 12 teams qualifying for the CFP. During Friday’s B1G Media Days, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day discussed all the potential changes.

Among other things, he thinks it could change what we come to expect college football to look like very quickly.

Ryan Day said 12-team CFP would “absolutely” change the approach to a season, noting that Ohio State would be out of the playoff race now if it lost to Minnesota and Oregon to start this season but could still get in by running the table and winning the conference with expansion.
