Ryan Day has made it clear he’s not close to making a decision on Ohio State’s quarterback situation. The three guys in the battle still have some work to do before the head coach is comfortable enough to determine a leader.

On Tuesday, Day met with reporters as the Buckeyes prepare to begin fall camp. As you might guess, he was asked a few questions about the ongoing competition at quarterback, one of the more interesting battles in all of college football.

C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord and Jack Miller III are the three names currently in the race. Next week, 5-star prospect from the 2022 class Quinn Ewers is expected to arrive in Columbus after reclassifying. It’s going to make for a fascinating battle.

Regardless of who wins the job, Day says everyone in the room needs to stick together for the Buckeyes to accomplish their goals in 2021.

“We’re going to need that entire room to be strong,” Day said, per Eleven Warriors. “Last time they won a national championship around here it took several guys to go win it, and I know that’s probably going to be the case this year.”

Day is referencing Ohio State’s 2014 national title run, the inaugural year for the College Football Playoff. Braxton Miller started out as the No. 1 quarterback but an injury push J.T. Barrett into the spotlight. Barrett led the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record in the regular season, but suffered an injury against Michigan in the finale.

Cardale Jones was then forced into the starting position for the B1G Championship Game. He eventually led Ohio State to wins over Wisconsin and then Alabama and Oregon in the College Football Playoff to claim a championship.

Ohio State will start the season on Sept. 2 with a road trip to Minnesota. It’s going to be fascinating to see how the battle plays out in Columbus until then.
