Ryan Day has found his starting quarterback with junior Kyle McCord edging out Devin Brown for the starting job. Now, Ohio State can move forward and try to develop and prepare McCord for the grind of a B1G schedule.

Following his Thursday radio show, Day was asked about any non-football areas McCord shined in throughout the competition. The head coach admitted there is a feeling the team and players have belief in McCord and noted the QB has put in a lot of work around the facility to work on his craft.

“I think the team and the players having faith and belief in him. Seeing his leadership and seeing what he does around the Woody (Hayes Athletic Center) with some of the players,” said Day. “I think he’s done a nice job before games, in the offseason of having a voice and that’s been good. He’s put a lot of work in by himself in the film room, so those are all good signs as a quarterback.”

McCord and the Buckeye offense already had high expectations of competing for a national title this season, and those expectations are unlikely to quiet down with the QB position solidified. Performance is always the main issue for any position, particularly at QB as the key to the offense. However, QB traditionally has the added factor of leadership, and it sounds like McCord has put in the work to win the team over.

We’ll see how McCord and the offense respond now that the QB battle is settled.
