Ryan Day praises Jeremiah Smith for 'playing with an attitude' vs. Tennessee
Ryan Day is extremely thankful Jeremiah Smith is at Ohio State. On Saturday, that was especially true with Smith showcasing his game-breaking talent for the entire country to see.
Hosting Tennessee in the College Football Playoff, Smith suited up for his first-ever postseason game in college football after a historic regular season for the freshman. And all Smith did was go out and deliver 2 touchdowns and over 100 yards receiving.
In the process, Smith eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving on the season, furthering his own freshman program record. Afterward, Day had nothing but praise for his elite freshman while interviewing with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt.
“He’s special. He’s a very very good player, but he’s a better person,” said Day while raving about Smith’s makeup. “His work ethic is off the charts, he’s tough. No one has worked harder these last 3 weeks. I mean, he did not like losing that game, I’m just telling you, and he came out with an attitude today, with a toughness and a physicality about him.”
That kind of physical nature is not something you always see in a receiver, but it’s evident when you witness Smith in person. With elite tools, speed and a physical mentality, Smith is a budding superstar.
“You’re talking about a receiver, you’re not always talking about that. But you get up close to him and you know what I’m talking about,” said Day. “He’s strong and he’s talented but he’s a great person and obviously a big playmaker for us.”
“He’s special … he came out with an attitude today. With a toughness and a physicality about him.”
