Despite it being National Signing Day, Ohio State is making some changes to its coaching staff.

Head coach Ryan Day has promoted Parker Fleming to special teams coordinator after he served as the quality control coach for the last three years. He’s also promoted Matt Barnes to be the secondary coach after he was the assistant secondary coach & special teams coordinator.

The announcement came this morning via Eleven Warriors on Twitter:

The Buckeyes had an opening at the special teams coordinator position, due to Greg Mattison retiring after this past season. Kerry Coombs will also now be the team’s defensive coordinator for the 2021 season, according to the article.

This isn’t the first time Fleming has been a full-time assistant coach at the collegiate level. Before joining the Buckeyes, he was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas State. He’s also worked at James Madison as their wide receivers coach.
