Ryan Day reacts to Ohio State's blowout Rose Bowl vs. Oregon
Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes secured another blowout win in the College Football Playoff. On Wednesday night in the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes dominated Oregon, leaving Pasadena with a 41-21 victory.
The Buckeyes’ offense was elite against the Ducks. The unit racked up 500 total yards of offense and didn’t commit any turnovers. Will Howard ended the night with 319 yards and 3 TDs while freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith caught 7 passes for 187 yards and 2 TDs.
After the game, Day was asked about his confidence in Howard and Smith and the aggressive playcalling in the game.
“I think that they’ve (Howard and Smith) both been practicing very well, but the fact that we all believe in them,” said Day. “Our defense played strong throughout the game, so we got some rhythm. I thought the run game popped, too, early in the first half.”
The Buckeyes had already put up 34 points in the first half before Oregon cracked the scoreboard. All of Howard and Smith’s TDs came in the first half as well, while the Ducks managed just 8 points before the break.
In total, the Buckeye defense held the Ducks to 276 total yards and -23 rushing yards.
“You see the potential of where we’re at when we play in all 3 phases like we did,” Day explained. “Kind of hung on here at the end, but I’m proud of the players, I’m proud of the resiliency of these guys. Still got a lot of football ahead of us.”
In 2 Playoff games, the Buckeyes have outscored their opponents 83-38. Now, the Buckeyes will take on the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl in the semifinals of the Playoff.
