With one of the greatest rivalries in sports comes hard work, respect and reflection. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day understands the magnitude of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry and reflected on what it means to him on Tuesday.

“It’s one of the greatest rivalries there is in the country,” Day said in his press conference. “Anytime you’re fighting tooth and nail to win the game because of what’s on the line, there’s friction at times. That’s just the way it works.”

Last season’s game didn’t go as planned. Day and his team fell short of the Wolverines and have since been working to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

“We try to just focus on ourselves,” Day said. “Focus on respecting the rivalry by working every day out of the year and we’re gonna go play as hard as we possibly can on Saturday.”

Day also reflected on his first year as head coach of the Buckeyes in 2019. He said that one of the first things he was asked about was the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.

The rivalry has been here long before Day, and it will be here long after.

“It’s not changed,” Day said. “It’s been like this 100 years here.”
