Ryan Day reportedly upset with freshman Eddrick Houston for personal foul penalty vs. Purdue
Ryan Day had a lot to be happy about at halftime in Week 11. His Buckeyes had a 21-0 lead over Purdue and looked to be on their way to another easy win.
However, something that happened right before halftime had Day upset. Freshman defensive lineman Eddrick Houston received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that kept the Buckeyes’ defense on the field. Houston received the penalty after shoving Purdue’s Mahamane Moussa to the ground after the whistle.
Here’s a replay:
Eddrick Houston had been playing phenomenal up until that flag.

At halftime, FOX’s Jenny Taft spoke with Day about the penalty. Taft said the coach looked “pretty upset” when asked about Houston.
“It comes down to discipline,” said Day. “If that play costs us the game, he will not hear the end of it.”
Fortunately for Houston, it seems incredibly unlikely that the Buckeyes lose this game. Halfway through the 3rd quarter, the Buckeyes had a 24-0 lead over the Boilermakers. This Purdue team has struggled mightily in 2024, sitting at 1-7 overall and 0-5 in B1G play.
Day did mention that Houston is just a freshman and he expects the talented lineman to learn from the experience. Heading into Week 11, Houston had collected 1 tackle and 2 pass deflections in his freshman season.
With a win, the Buckeyes would improve to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in B1G play. After Week 11, the Buckeyes still have to play Northwestern, No. 8 Indiana, and Michigan in the regular season.
