Ryan Day has Ohio State riding high after a thrilling 17-14 win over Notre Dame. However, that game was far from flawless, and Day was left feeling sick after watching certain parts of the game film.

During Thursday’s radio show, Day discussed how the team still needs to improve on short-yardage situations. While Chip Trayanum’s game-winning plunge came on a short-yardage play, the game might have been put away earlier had the Buckeyes capitalized on some key downs.

Here’s what Day had to say about short-yardage situations and the film from the Notre Dame game (via Eleven Warriors):

“We have to execute better in short-yardage situations.”

“It makes me sick to watch the film (of missed opportunities).”

“If we finish off our drives, it’s a totally different game. We have to learn from those mistakes.”

While there are some things to improve on, Day noted Ohio State’s win says “a lot about our leadership” in a tough road environment. The head coach also shared his optimism that the win can help “catapult” the Buckeyes into the middle portion of the season.

We’ll see how Ohio State hits the ground in Week 6 after taking a bye this weekend to rest and regroup.
