Ryan Day is doing something nobody really expected him to do. As a first-time head coach, following in the footseps of a legend, not many thought Day would excel in Year 1 at Ohio State quite the way he has in 2019.
Day is a first-year head coach, taking over for Urban Meyer, who won a national championship and three B1G titles in his time as a head coach at Ohio State. A year after Meyer stepped down as the program’s head coach, Day has already claimed a conference title.
Ohio State is 13-0 after posting a 34-21 win over Wisconsin on Saturday in the B1G Championship Game. Now, the Buckeyes will be heading to the College Football Playoff with a chance to compete for the national title.
Following the win, Day was asked about the impact Meyer has had on him and the program. Day said his whole goal is to make his former boss proud.
“I can’t say enough. I could talk for hours,” Day said of Meyer. “What he’s done for me and my family, not only my coaching career but then the way things played out here, what he built here. I just want to make sure I make him proud and everybody at Buckeye Nation.”
A 13-0 season with a B1G title in hand is a pretty good way to start.
Below is the clip of Day talking about Meyer, as posted by FOX.
