Ryan Day shares first impressions of Tennessee ahead of Playoff matchup
Ryan Day and Ohio State drew the No. 8 seed in Sunday’s inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff bracket, and the Buckeyes will host an unfamiliar foe in their first-round game on Dec. 21.
Tennessee, the No. 9 seed, will come calling to Columbus for a Big Ten-SEC showdown of sorts. But it’ll be more than just that: a trip to the Playoff quarterfinals will be on the line in the primetime game at the Horseshoe. Kickoff will be shortly after 8 p.m. ET on ABC in 2 Saturdays from now, as the 2 tradition-rich programs battle for a quarterfinal date with top-seeded Oregon at the Rose Bowl.
Day was asked for his opening thoughts on the Volunteers during ESPN’s Playoff Selection Show on Sunday.
“They’re a good team. They’ve historically done a great job on offense. They have a run game going, for sure,” said Day. “On defense, real stout up front, really good guys on the perimeter, and they play good complimentary football.”
Both Tennessee and Ohio State will take 10-2 records into the Playoff matchup in Columbus. ESPN’s FPI matchup predictor already has its own early impressions of the game, giving the Buckeyes a 67.4% chance to win and advance to a rematch with the undefeated Ducks. Oregon beat Ohio State, 32-31, in one of the games of the year earlier this season, but the Buckeyes might get another shot at the Ducks with everything on the line.
Only Tennessee is standing in the way of that. Ohio State opened up at -7.5 for the game via DraftKings, and be sure to use Tradition’s DraftKings Ohio promo code for all the best offerings.
