Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes have thrived after the first 2 weeks of the season and many college football experts believe they have a chance to win the College Football Playoff in 2024.

While they have started the year against opponents with less talent, the Buckeyes have been impressive. They knocked off Akron 52-6 in Week 1 and followed that victory up with a dominating 56-0 shutout against Western Michigan on Saturday.

While it would be easy for an outsider to see those outcomes and assume that Ohio State is ready to compete with the top teams in the country, Day understands his team has plenty of areas to improve before the conference schedule begins on Sept. 28 against Michigan State.

In Week 3, Ohio State has a rare early bye-week.

But Day made a point to publicly mention the Buckeyes won’t just be sitting around relaxing while the rest of the college football world plays this weekend.

“We’re calling it an improvement week, because we need to improve,” Day said in a press conference on Tuesday. “Everyone else is getting better this week.”

Ohio State hasn’t had a bye week this early since 2002 and have only been idle 5 times in September in that span, according to Joey Kaufman, who covers the team for the Columbus Dispatch.

The Buckeyes will finish their nonconference schedule with their first game back after the bye week when they host Marshall on Sept. 21.
