Ryan Day knows the pressures of coaching Ohio State better than most. That makes Monday’s national title victory that much sweeter, though there are undoubtedly times when things become a bit too much with segments of the fanbase.

The situation involving certain segments of the fanbase became increasingly apparent late in November after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan once again. It brings the losing streak for Ryan Day to 4 in not just the biggest game of the year but The Game.

While it’s understandable for fans to be frustrated, and even understandable for fans to criticize the head coach, a line was undeniably crossed by some this season. According to a story by Bruce Feldman with “The Athletic,” Day and his family — including his children — received anger and hatred from fans, including threats that led to the Day family receiving around-the-clock police protection.

“We had security at our house, school was really bad,” said RJ Day, Ryan’s son, to The Athletic. “I didn’t really leave the house much ’til after the Tennessee game. It was rough, but you’ve gotta hang on in those rough times because eventually things will turn back around again.”

Hopefully, fans can learn to take a step back and live in reality, even in the midst of frustrating losses. For now, the Day family can rest a bit easier and enjoy this time with Ryan Day’s first title as a head coach.
