The former Ohio State star announced that decision on Wednesday morning.
“In my heart, I know that I gave this game, this team, and this city everything that I had,” Hubbard wrote in-part. “That is why today, with great pride, I am announcing that I am moving on from my playing career in the NFL and entering the next chapter of my life.”

Hubbard was a consistent starter for the Bengals in 6 of the last 7 years, with the only exception being his rookie season. He made 88 starts for the Bengals at defensive end and was consistently productive over that time period.
He retires with 55 tackles for loss, 38.5 sacks, 16 pass deflections and 6 forced fumbles in his NFL career.
Hubbard was a 3rd round pick out of Ohio State back in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Southwest Ohio native was a 3-year contributor for the Buckeyes before turning pro. He finished his career in Columbus with 30 tackles for loss and 17 sacks.
As for what’s next, Hubbard indicated that he’s open to exploring new “business opportunities” and furthering “the mission of The Sam Hubbard Foundation” while also spending more time with family.
