The San Francisco 49ers updated the status of Ohio State product Trey Sermon heading into the Week 2 matchup at the Philadelphia Eagles.
The rookie running back was held out of the Week 1 game vs. Detroit despite being healthy.
Via NBC Sports: “Sermon displayed “extra aggressiveness” in practice this week after being a shocking healthy scratch in Week 1 against Detroit.”
49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniels came away impressed with Sermon during practice this week, which led to making him active:
“Kyle [Shanahan] always says to the players and coaches, ‘Don’t tell me, show me.’ And (Sermon) showed, I think, all of us that he really wants an opportunity, which he’ll get this Sunday,” McDaniels said via NBC Sports.
Sermon was selected by the 49ers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Sermon transferred to Ohio State from Oklahoma for his final college season and finished as a 2nd-team All-B1G selection in 2020.
