The San Francisco 49ers received some bad news about their defensive star on Monday.

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reported that Bosa has suffered a tear in his ACL and it will end his 2020 season. The second-year defensive end had to be carted off the field on Sunday, during the 49ers’ 31-13 victory over the Jets.

Bosa did not record any stats in the game.

Bosa was coming off a stellar rookie season with the 49ers in 2019. After being selected with the No. 2 overall selection in the NFL Draft, Bosa was named the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year when he ended the year with 47 tackles, 9 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.

He was a Pro Bowl selection, named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. Bosa also helped lead San Francisco to an appearance in last year’s Super Bowl.

In the first game of the 2020 season, Bosa recorded 6 tackles and forced a fumble in San Francisco’s loss to Arizona.

This marks the second time in three seasons that Bosa’s season has been cut short by injury. During the 2018 season at Ohio State, Bosa was sidelined in the Buckeyes’ third game of the season after suffering an injury.
