Ohio State’s defensive line received a significant boost when Haskell Garrett decided to return for the upcoming season. He made huge strides during the 2020 campaign and could be one of the top players in the trenches this year.

Senior Bowl director and analyst Jim Nagy has some high expectations for the Buckeyes defensive lineman entering the 2021 season, too. After watching Garrett elevate his game to a new level last fall, there’s a belief that he could be in store for big things.

“Only player who made bigger jump up Senior Bowl board from beginning to end of 2020 season than (Ohio State) DT Haskell Garrett was New Orleans Saints first-rounder Payton Turner,” Nagy wrote on Twitter. “If Garrett continues same ascent he’s going to have monster year for OSU.”

Garrett was credited with 20 tackles, 4 for loss, 2 sacks, a pick-six and a pass break-up in 8 games for the Buckeyes. He was a key member of an Ohio State team that finished with a 7-1 record, won a fourth straight B1G title and earned a trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

With Tommy Togiai and Jonathon Cooper departing from Ohio State’s front line, Garrett will be leaned on to set the standard along the defensive line, particularly on the interior.

It’s a proving ground for Garrett, and his draft stock could soar with a big year.
