Social media reacts to Tate Martell losing starting QB battle at Miami
Tuesday morning was not a good morning for Tate Martell.
Martell, a former QB at Ohio State, decided to transfer once he learned that the Buckeyes were bringing in 5-star QB Justin Fields — from Georgia — to compete for the starting QB job. Martell landed at Miami (FL) and was cleared immediately eligible to play by the NCAA.
However, Martell lost the starting job at Miami to redshirt freshman QB Jarren Williams.

Again, not good if you’re Martell.
With that, social media of course had a field day on Martell losing the job. After all, he transferred from Ohio State to play more (and avoid a legitimate competition with Fields for the job).
Here’s what Twitter had to say about the news:
Wow! True freshman Jarren Williams beats out Tate Martell for the starting job. Martell transferred to Miami for “playing time” https://t.co/vvOXCg0rU6

To be clear, I'm legit bummed I won't get to witness Martell's first career start.
College football needs a good villain. Martell would be a great one.

Former Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell was granted immediate eligibility after transferring to Miami. He will not begin the season, though, as the Hurricanes’ starter, losing out in the preseason competition to Jarren Williams. https://t.co/DSh7MtTQIt

Even former Ohio State assistant Zach Smith got in on the action:
PSA: Transferring is not the answer.
The portal is like a new age drug for College Football Players.
Fight the urge to portal.
Portals are bad.
You’ll regret your decision to portal someday.#SayNoToPortal @M2SPodcast— Zach Smith (@CoachZachSmith) August 12, 2019
