USC is expected to hire Ohio State’s Weston Zernechel as the school’s new assistant director of player personnel, Pete Thamel of ESPN reported. He worked as assistant director of player personnel at Ohio State.
Zernechel was in his third season working at Ohio State, and his second year as assistant director, player personal for the football program. He worked with assistant athletic director Mark Pantoni and the program’s recruiting efforts, and his duties included prospect evaluation and identification, and official/unofficial visit assistance and facilitation, according to his Ohio State bio. Zernechel returned to Ohio State in 2017 and spent that season as a recruiting assistant.
A native of Canton, Ohio, and a 2014 graduate of Ohio State with a degree in sport industry, Zernechel has had a variety of experiences that ideally suit him for his position in player personnel. He spent the 2016-17 academic year at the University of Houston, where he worked as a recruiting assistant for Derek Chang and under coach Tom Herman. He was a team manager for the Buckeye football team four seasons as an undergraduate, and he also spent a season – 2015-16 – working as an equipment intern with the Cleveland Browns.
