Ohio State starting cornerback Sevyn Banks has played his last game in Columbus, head coach Ryan Day told reporters on Monday.

Banks, a member of Ohio State’s 2018 recruiting class, spent four years with the Buckeyes. Before the Rose Bowl, the starting defensive back hinted that the postseason finale “should be” his final game with the program.

Day said that he will have a meeting with Banks and his family on Tuesday but that the defensive back is planning to move on from the program. He will not return for a super senior year, though it’s unclear if he’ll declare for the NFL Draft or enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Banks, a native of Orlando, appeared in 36 career games during his career at Ohio State. In his four seasons, he piled up 43 tackles, 13 pass break-ups and 2 interceptions.

During the 2021 season, Banks played in 8 contests for the Buckeyes and totaled 8 tackles. He also had 1 tackle for loss and a pass break-up as Ohio State ended the year with an 11-2 record.

The news of Banks moving on comes the same day that Day revealed that defensive lineman Jerron Cage and linebackers Teradja Mitchell and Palaie Gaotoete will be returning to Columbus for the 2022 season.
