Steele Chambers is preparing for his 5th season in the Ohio State program. After beginning his career as a running back, Chambers switched to the defense and has been a sole linebacker since 2021.

Chambers had a decent showing during his first year with the defense before a big jump playing in Jim Knowles’ defense a year ago. He produced 77 tackles, 6.5 TFL and 2 sacks before deciding to come back for another year with the defense.

Ahead of the summer, Chambers sat down with new Buckeye assistant and program legend James Laurinaitis. During that “Tradition Talk” conversation, the two linebackers discussed who belongs on Ohio State’s Mt. Rushmore of LB greats.

Chambers went first and started with Laurinaitis before listing some former stars and one of his current teammates as worthy of the Mt. Rushmore:

“I’ll go with you. I mean, that’s a pretty easy start,” said Chambers in reference to Laurinaitis. “Whenever they said that you took the job, they read off your accolades and it was pretty ridiculous. You were doing pretty good when you were here.

“I’ll go Tom Cousineau. No. 1 overall pick so he was doing something right. I’ll go with (Ryan) Shazier. I feel like he kind of modernized the position, he was really sideline-to-sideline. Not the biggest guy but he could still thump you. And then recency bias, I’ll go Tommy (Eichenberg). I live with the guy so I have to. Playing next to him is fun as hell, it’s just a great time being around him.”

While Laurinaitis said he was humbled to be selected and liked Chambers’ pick of Shazier, he went in a different route. Laurinaitis went with Cousineau, Randy Gradishar, Chris Spielman and AJ Hawk for his Mt. Rushmore of LBs.
