Matthew Baldwin may not have seen the field in TCU’s season opener against Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday, but the former Buckeye may get the opportunity to play for the Horned Frogs this season after all.

Following TCU’s 39-7 victory over Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Patterson said that Baldwin, a former Ohio State quarterback, received an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA. He will be eligible to play this season after transferring from Columbus in the spring.

Baldwin’s initial waiver request was denied by the NCAA, but he won the appeal.

Dean Straka of Sports Day tweeted out Patterson’s comment.

With Baldiwn’s status in question, TCU rolled with Max Duggan as the primary starter with Alex Delton backing him up. The two combined to throw for 284 yards and a touchdown while completing 26-of-45 pass attempts.

Delton also had 67 yards on seven carries in the contest.

It’s unclear whether Baldwin will be the guy in Patterson’s offense now that he’s eligible, or if it just means TCU has some nice added depth at the position. Either way, the ex-Buckeye is eligible and can step on the field in Fort Worth this fall.

After a 1-0 start, TCU has an off week before traveling to West Lafayette to play Purdue on Sept. 14.
