Comparing college players to their NFL counterparts has been a common aspect of the sport. Sometimes, the best way to analyze a player is to make a comparison.

That’s what NFL Draft expert Todd McShay did with Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Although, his comparison was a pretty interesting one.

During College Football Live, McShay said that Haskins reminded him of another quarterback who played for Urban Meyer: Alex Smith.

“I would argue Urban Meyer probably hasn’t had a more natural passer probably going back to Alex Smith,” McShay said. “He may not be the runner that some of the other quarterbacks have been, but this guy has got some special talent in terms of sitting in the pocket, reading defenses and throwing the ball accurately.

“He’s completing almost 80 percent of his throws. I know Urban Meyer is not on the sideline right now. And I know it’s Rutgers. And I know it’s Oregon State. But you can see it just studying the tape — the anticipation, the touch, the accuracy.”

Haskins has thrown for 546 and nine touchdowns with just one interception in a pair of blowout wins for the Buckeyes. After those two outings against Oregon State and Rutgers, the Ohio State quarterback has climbed in the Heisman race.

The one question about Haskins is whether he can be as accurate and effective against a quality defense, something he hasn’t faced yet this season.

Ohio State and Haskins will have its first real challenge this Saturday, taking on TCU in Arlington, Texas.
