Texas head coach Tom Herman has admitted to attending a strip club in 2014 with Zach Smith while both were assistant coaches at Ohio State.

In a report that was made public by Ohio State after the investigation into head coach Urban Meyer, Smith was reported to run up a “significant bill” at a Miami-area strip club in 2014. He was accompanied by an unnamed assistant coach, who the university later confirmed was Herman.

While meeting with local reporters on Thursday, Herman acknowledged that he was indeed the unnamed coach mentioned in the report.

“What was reported was four-and-a-half years ago when I was an assistant coach,” Herman said. “My wife knew exactly where I was and had no issue with it. I’m happy to cooperate and be honest, truthful and transparent with the NCAA if they so need me to be. But I understand the responsibility that comes with being the head coach at the University of Texas, and I take that responsibility very, very seriously. Right now, that responsibility includes me being laser-like focused on preparing our team to win a game in less than 48 hours in Washington D.C.”

Herman’s name has surfaced frequently throughout the Smith/Meyer saga. There’s even been speculation that the Texas head coach was the one who tipped off reporter Brett McMurphy to break the story on Smith’s alleged domestic violence arrest in 2015.
