The top-ranked football recruit from the state of Ohio in the 2022 recruiting class will be staying close to home.
Saturday afternoon, Ohio State received a verbal commitment from 4-star outside linebacker Gabe Powers, who is listed as the No. 1 player out of the state in the cycle. Powers also ranks as the No. 2 outside linebacker and the No. 45 overall prospect, according to 247Sports.
Ohio State is now up to four commitments in the 2022 recruiting class. All four are listed as 4-star players and all are in-state talents.

Powers is listed as a 6-foot-4, 220-pound linebacker out of Marysville, Ohio. He received offers from 18 total programs on the recruiting front, picking the Buckeyes over other big-name programs such as Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, USC and Wisconsin.
From 247Sports recruiting analyst Charles Power:
Works as an outside linebacker on defense and creates consistent disruption as a rusher and blitzer off the edge. His quickness and size results in sideline-to-sideline range as a run defender. Shows play speed with the ability to track down plays from the backside. Though he still has room to get stronger, shows good functional strength at the point of attack in taking on blocks and as a tackler.
Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class currently ranks 1st in the B1G and 2nd nationally, though it’s obviously still very early in the process.
