Troy Smith offers apology to Ohio State QB Will Howard for criticism during Penn State game
Troy Smith had a legendary career at Ohio Sate that saw him win the Heisman Trophy in 2006. During his time at Ohio State, he threw for 5,720 yards, 54 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He was also able to make big plays with his feet, as he rushed for 1,197 yards and 14 touchdowns.
He of all people knows what it is like to be the quarterback at Ohio State. When things are good, you are beloved. However, when things go bad, the fans can turn on you quickly.
Despite that knowledge, Smith voiced his displeasure with Howard’s performance in the first half and said he wanted to see freshman QB Julian Sayin in the 2nd half.
However, when the Buckeyes needed him in the 2nd half, Howard delivered in a big way and Smith had to issue an apology on social media:
I owe Will Howard an apology.

Not only did he apologize, he later posted Howard’s NIL store trying to get fans to support the Buckeyes’ QB:

It wasn’t the prettiest performance of Howard’s career, as he did throw an early interception that Penn State returned for a score to go up 10-0.
However, when the Buckeyes needed him, he delivered in a big way. He finished the game with only 182 yards and 2 touchdowns, and was a big reason why Ohio State won the game.
