Two more Ohio State newcomers drop black stripe as season opener approaches
The closer the season gets the more and more Ohio State newcomers are officially becoming Buckeyes.
On Tuesday, two more freshmen shed their black stripes — wide receiver Mookie Cooper and linebacker Mitchell Melton. Both were members of Ohio State’s 5th-ranked 2020 recruiting class. The Twitter account for Buckeyes football shared the update on Tuesday evening.

Cooper came to Ohio State as a 4-star wide receiver out of Maryland Heights, Missouri. He was ranked as the No. 93 overall prospect in the 2020 class and was listed as the No. 16 receiver, per 247Sports.
Melton was also a 4-star pledge for the Buckeyes, coming out of Olney, Maryland. The linebacker ranked as the No. 24 player at his position and was No. 350 overall.
Ohio State opens the season on Saturday, Oct. 24 at home against Nebraska.
